So, my dad has never been one for heart-to-heart talks or really being open in general about feelings. One night when I was 14, my dad comes home, tells me to get my jacket and takes me out for dinner. It was a quiet dinner where we small talked about school and stuff, nothing spectacular. Then we go to the movies. We see Species. This is the first time I'd really been allowed to see an "R" rated movie that was the big screen equivalent of Showtime After Dark. Well, I sit with him in uncomfortable silence through the whole movie. The movie ends, we go to the car and the ride home is almost conversation free except for when he turns off the radio to ask, "You liked that, right? Like, the girl?". I say yes, he says good, we finish the ride home in silence. And thus was the Birds and the Bees talk with my dad.
